Самый известный вулкан Коста-Рики.  Его извержение в 1968 году полностью изменило облик страны.  До 2010 года небольшие извержения происходили каждые 15 минут. Днем над вулканом клубился дым, а ночью можно было видеть огненные языки лавы. В 2010 году вулкан уснул.

Извержений сейчас не увидеть, но идеальный конус вулкана и сейчас прекрасен, а у подножия бьют горячие ключи Tabacón, в которых можно купаться.

Склоны вулкана покрыты джунглями, над обрывами висят подвесные мосты и работает фуникулер, который отвезет вас на смотровую площадку откуда открывается прекрасный вид на озеро Ареналь.

Глубоко в джунглях спрятан водопад Ла Фортуна высотой 70 метров. Добираться до него достаточно долго и сложно. Местные туристические агентства предлагают четырехчасовой подъем на лошадях.

Частный резерват. Занимает  600 гектар на   тихоокеанском побережье Коста-Рики  Самый "причесанный  уголок страны, который скорее напоминает роскошный country club. Гольф поля, причалы для яхт, частные виллы и резиденции, ну, и главное, это конечно двадцать три километра  разноцветных песчаных пляжей.

Отели на Папагайо

Здесь  расположены самые роскошные отели Коста-Рики. Двадцать лет назад открылся Four Seasons, затем через десять лет Andaz, и совсем недавно Nekajui Nitz Carlton, а на противоположной стороне залива  чуть  Waldorf Astoria.

Все они расположены достаточно близко друг к другу и делят гольф-поля, причалы для яхт и Клуб Искателей Приключений, где можно прокатиться на подвесном тросе над джунглями или каноэ.

Чуть южнее расположен полуостров Никойя с его поросшими джунглями холмами,  мангровыми зарослями,и заповедниками Cabo Blanco и Curú.
